I've located a supermax 25-2 (2 drums) that partly disassembled (due to moving) and needs belts. He's asking $ 1300. He said it has about 150 hrs. on it. Anyone out there familiar with this sander and if so would you think it might be worth it. I haven't seen it yet, but I think it has casters, probably no DRO

We (KMG) have a dual 37" very well made machine however its impossible to replace the drive belt (engineering flaw) without totally disassembling it. But resolved using the segmented style belt, however, that too is not correct because the pulley diameters are too small and usage is out of spec. -- but so far that has worked OK. I am always leery of disassembled machines -- whats missing, whats not working parts (including conveyor belts) are very, very expensive if you can get them?-- these machines are bullet proof and that one (25" dual) was about $4500 new of course it was not in pieces. The company has changed hands again and I think they are now made overseas now. My short answer should have been you need to do some investigating and research.

Well an edit already -- I see the new version which is completely enclosed is only $3000 delivered -- based on that for me $1300 for a "kit" is way too much $.02

I agree with Ken. While I agree that the supermax line is well made and a good product new, you have to ask yourself if a "project" piece of equipment is worth the cost.

Also, ask around to see how many guys are actually running two different belts on their 2 drum sanders..... most of use are using these machines as a thickness "planer" and not a finishing sander anyway...

You can buy a brand new Jet 16-32 from Amazon for less than $1,150......

I also have the 37/2 and like it, but I would be leery of a machine in pieces. If this was running and you could see it function, maybe. I like a project but it needs to be a real bargain.
Generally only use 1 drum.
Interesting to know about the drive belt, good fix with the link belt Ken, they are pretty forgiving.
